Statement from Save Ethnic Studies attorney Richard Martinez on ruling today - Three Sonorans

Statement from Save Ethnic Studies attorney Richard Martinez on ruling today - Three Sonorans

No one should be surprised by the ALJ decision released today affirming John Huppenthal’s Finding against the TUSD Mexican American Studies program.

Latinos in Arizona are well aware that their role has been marginalized and future under the present regime nonexistent. That compartmentalization is not only discriminatory, but based upon a hollow foundation. The future Latinos enjoy in Arizona will be that which they create irrespective of what other non-Latinos think, desire or arguably permit.

The Acosta plaintiffs are in federal district court because they knew long ago the ALJ process was a dead end processes; no Latino in Arizona can expect the state of Arizona to protect their rights or treat them as full and equal citizens. To the likes of Huppenthal, Brewer and Arpaio, Mexicans are just a disposable commodity to be tolerated as a source of cheap labor when needed. To others we are just the source of a vote when needed to win an election when needed. (And most of the time they figure they can win without our votes.)
