Phoenix Tent City inmates to get 'icy' heat relief
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has ordered delivery of thousands of bags of ice to Tent City over the weekend, the sheriff's office said.
According to a news release, a box truck filled with ice delivered the first load to the outdoor jail facility around 1 p.m. Saturday.
Arpaio said he expects inmates to face temperatures of nearly 130 degrees inside their tents.
Inmates will be allowed as many bags of ice as they require for cooling or drinking purposes, and will also be allowed to sit on bags of ice if they want, the sheriff’s office said.
