School officials in Memphis, Tennessee, say they will not open the public schools until the school district gets the $140 million the city owes to it.

The school board of Memphis City Schools made the decision Tuesday night, said Dorsey Hopson, an attorney for the school system.

"MCS Board of Education voted to indefinitely delay the opening of our schools, pending the resolution of a long-standing funding dispute with the City of Memphis," Hopson said in a statement to CNN.
