Chilly Night for Tent City, Sheriff's Outdoor Jail
PHOENIX - The cold front has brought overnight temperatures in the 20s to Phoenix, which means a chilly night for Sheriff Joe's Tent City inmates.
The below freezing weather is a change for the inmates, who are used to experiencing the intense summer heat.
In the summer, the outdoor tents can reach up to 140 degrees.
Sheriff Arpaio says the inmates will be provided extra blankets and pink thermal underwear.
Inmates at the Tent City Jail have been housed in Korean War tents since 1993.
"I don't believe in the 18 years we ever had anybody with frostbite, but we have ways to take care of the inmates, if there's any problem we'll make sure that they're safe and healthy," Sheriff Joe told FOX 10.
