Inmates Eat For 8 Cents On Thanksgiving - Phoenix News Story - KPHO Phoenix
PHOENIX -- Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has a special Thanksgiving meal planned for his inmates.
This year they will receive sliced turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries, carrots and a roll with butter. For dessert each inmate will get a doughnut.
Arpaio said the cost equals to 8 cents an inmate.
"I don't know how my staff does it every year, but they work hard to get food donated. It isn't easy. In an economy like this, there's a lot of competition for donated food," said Arpaio.
Normally the average meal cost around 35 cents.
The sheriff serves only two meals a day, a brunch meal and one hot meal in the evening.
