Gov. Jan Brewer center of political debate on Facebook The State Column
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer is feeling the heat from a group on Facebook aimed at highlighting a string of policy decisions that will restrict residents from organ transplant operations.
A new Facebook page called “Arizonans Against Brewercare” is bringing attention to patients who won’t be able to get organ transplants because of cuts to the state’s Medicaid program.
State Democrats are taking aim at the governor, saying she is risking the health of residents. Earlier this year, state lawmakers voted to reduce funding for the state’s health care system.
Republicans are now reconsidering their support for the bill, saying they may have been shown a “incomplete” picture.
Arizona spends an estimate $1 to $2 million in operations for low-income residents. Democrats argue that Ms. Brewer can access federal funding provided by the stimulus in order to restore funding for the program.
