Donations to a special fund that Arizona Gov. Jan Brewerestablished to help pay for the state's legal defense of its immigrationenforcement law now total roughly $500,000.
The law is the subject of six pending legal challenges from the federalgovernment, private groups and individuals as well as several Arizonamunicipalities.Documents and other information obtained by The Associated Press fromBrewer's office indicates that more than 9,000 contributions made via thefund's website accounted for about 85 percent of the total donations.
Nearly 2,000 of the website contributions came from within Arizona.
The documents also indicate that donations surged this week as the U.S.Department of Justice filed its lawsuit challenging the law.
