State must find way to bridge its ethnic divide
There is a resentment that comes from knowing that people who look like you have been denigrated and systematically dehumanized as the problem of illegal immigration became more about scoring political points than finding solutions.
The majority of Latinos polled by Univision said they think illegal immigrants help the country - something a number of economists have said over the years.
Yet law-enforcement, environmental, health and other costs of illegal immigration fall disproportionately on Arizona because this is the busiest sector for illegal border crossing.
This problem demands a comprehensive federal solution that secures the border, creates a pipeline for legal guest workers and allows the current illegal population to earn legal status. Congress has to do this.
